Which unit does each box want?
The unit is printed inside the box, and it is not the same for every one. A slab is measured in feet long and inches deep, because that is how slabs are described on site. Reading a four-inch depth as four feet would order twelve times the concrete, so the app never guesses — it labels.
Can I type twelve feet six inches?
Yes, in any of the ways people actually write it: 12' 6", 12 6, 12.5, or 4 1/2 for a fraction. Comma decimals work too, so 12,5 is the same as 12.5.
Why does the bag count jump up by one?
Because merchants sell whole bags. The count is always rounded up, and the waste allowance is added to the volume before the bags are counted rather than afterwards — a pour that runs out three bags from the end leaves a cold joint through the middle of the slab.
How does it work out the number of steps' worth of concrete?
A flight poured solid is a staircase prism, not a box: each step sits on the concrete of every step below it, so the volume is rise × run × width × (1+2+…+n). That comes to a little over half the box that encloses the flight — the common shortcut of halving the box is wrong, and wrong in the direction of ordering too little.
Why is the rebar figure higher than the one I worked out?
Two reasons, and both are usually the missing ones. A grid at 16-inch centres across a twelve-foot slab is ten bars, not nine — the closing bar at the far edge is easy to drop. And mesh sheets lap each other, so a 5 × 7 sheet covers about 4.5 × 6.5 feet; dividing the area by the full sheet size under-orders on every job.
Does it work without internet?
Yes, entirely. The app never connects to the internet. Saved jobs are stored on your phone and nowhere else, and nothing about you is collected or sent anywhere.
